| Market Update
While November brought limited movement at the aggregate index level (+0.1%)1, there’s reason to believe that it should act as a refreshing pause. Recall the market came into the month narrowly-defined by the number of stocks that were driving index gains. That tightrope presaged some choppiness we experienced in the early to middle portions of the period as more speculative and more highly-priced issues led the pullback. Fast forward to early December and we’ve seen some healthy signs of broadening in participation, including a move to all-time highs for the S&P’s cumulative advance-decline metric.
We, like everyone else, will remain vigilant as a slew of economic data, some delayed by the government shutdown, releases over the coming weeks. That said, it is unlikely to meaningfully shift the narrative around the macroeconomy. Job growth has been lackluster. Inflation, while stubbornly high, has been trending in the ‘right direction’. Meanwhile, headline economic growth has been resilient. The Fed did well to further crystallize this view with the Summary of Economic Projections (SEP) it delivered around its latest meeting, while allowing for the possibility of additional rate cuts to normalize policy and offer further support to the job market.
Which brings us to our glad tidings…With renewed momentum coming out of November, the month of December is traditionally one of the strongest of the year for index-level returns, historically producing an avg. uptick of ~1.5% and finishing in the green 73% of the time2. Those numbers are even rosier when the index heads into the month up at least 10% for the year (+2% avg. return and up 78% of the time)2, which is the case this go-around. |

The Dells’ $6.25 Billion “Trump Accounts” Gift – What You Should Know
Earlier this month, Michael and Susan Dell pledged $6.25 billion to support “Trump Accounts,” investment accounts created under the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA). These accounts are designed to give children an early start on saving and investing.
Under the law, babies born between 2025 and 2028 receive a $1,000 government-funded deposit. The Dells’ gift extends the concept by seeding $250 into accounts for roughly 25 million children under age 10 who were born before 2025 and live in zip codes where median household income is below $150,000. Any unused funds may later be directed to older children.
For families, Trump Accounts are another potential tool to consider alongside more familiar vehicles such as 529 college savings plans. As with any strategy, it is important to compare features, restrictions, and tax treatment to determine what best supports your long-term goals.
